The Gift Of Sausage Making For Father’s Day

Saturday, May 9th, 2009 by theidel

Now that you have taken care of Mother’s Day gifts, it’s time to start planning for Father’s Day.  Picking a gift for Mom is relatively easy.  You can choose flowers, jewelry and even go out for brunch and more times then not, she will be very happy.  Father’s Day get a bit tougher since many find themselves in the dilemma of “What do you get for Dad?”.  What do you get for the guy that has everything?  Give him the gift of Sausage Making.  The gift that keeps giving year after year.

The most memorable gifts I have received over the years are those that are different.  Those gifts that are interesting, fun and rewarding, but not necessarily expensive.  Therein lies the problem.  Home Food Gourmet has made that an easy decision.  If your father likes to grill, cook or create things with his hands, the gift of Sausage Making will be memorable and appreciated.  It can begin a hobby for your Dad or anyone that will give them years of enjoyment, satisfaction and cause amazement from family and friends.

Home Food Gourmet has created 3 sausage and jerky making kits for under $60 that give your loved ones everything they need to get started making multiple varieties of delicious sausage or jerky.  Whether they decide to use beef, pork, venison or other game meats, they will be able to create gastronomical works of art.  Every batch of sausage or jerky made has it’s own personality created by the sausage maker.

A sample of the sausage and jerky varieties included in the 3 Home Food Gourmet “Ultimate” kits are Sausage Sticks, Salami, Polish, Summer, Bologna, Pepperoni, Dry Cure Hard Salami, Cajun, Pepper, Teriyaki, Mesquite and Barbeque.  As someone gets hooked on the art of making sausage or jerky, they can begin to experiment with different seasoning blends, adding other ingredients such as cranberries, apples and more.

Sausage-Making and Politics Don’t Go Together

Saturday, April 4th, 2009 by theidel

I am going to go on a little rant here.  Recently there have been numerous news articles referring to politics and sausage-making in basically the same sentence.   In fact, if you search Google for “political + sausages” there are 59 recent articles making the connection between the two.  The connection was first suggested in a quote by Otto Bismarck, “Laws are like sausages, it is better not to see them made“.  Mr. Bismarck was a very educated and influential leader in Germany during the later part of the 19th century, also known as the “Iron Chancellor”.  He should have known better to denigrate “the great sausage”.

Giving Sausages a Bad Name

In my book, sausages never hurt anyone.  It is my belief that using sausage in the same sentence or conversation with politics or politicians, is no different than connecting sausages to lawyers, used car dealers, loan originators or AIG executives.  It doesn’t make any sense and it’s mean spirited.

Sausage and Politics are not the same

The sausage and the art of sausage-making stands for everything that politics and politicians do not:

  • Sausage-making stands for not wasting “pork” or even beef, chicken, venison or many other meats.
  • Sausage is wonderful, delicious and does not offend anyone. (Except PETA)
  • Sausage is truly multi-cultural and inclusive.
  • The art of making sausage and its end result provides sustenance and joy to the masses.

Because of this slanderous and irresponsible association, we at Home Food Gourmet have started an online petition to restore the good name of Sausage and the Sausage-Maker.

Take a few minutes to visit the petition at this link:  Leave the Sausage Alone Petition
