Hello world!

Welcome to Home Food Gourmet’s blog.  I have always wanted to write, this blog is my stage and you are my audience.  This gives me a chance to discuss preserving food at home.  It can be a wide ranging topical blog related to canning, curing & smoking, dehydrating, fermenting, pickling and freezing.  I may have forgot some, but we get into that later.

I have always loved food.  I love cooking food.  The process of preserving food such as making sausage, pickles, drying herbs, canning pickles, tomatoes and so many other things is a lot of fun for me.  It is like a food laboratory where one can try different recipes, formulas and combinations to create something never done before.  I began to share some of the information that I gathered on my website:  www.homefoodgourmet.com.  I would like it if you took a few minutes to browse and let me know what you think.

There are also many factors currently affecting food that we are hearing everyday that can be mitigated somewhat by preserving your own food.  Food safety is probably foremost in everyones mind.  Others include economic, political and environmental.  We will have a chance to explore many or all of them on this blog.

While this is starting out as “my project”, it will be a community effort that will include all that would like to contribute.  Food preservation is as old as civilization.  There will be no “all knowing guru” that will have all the answers, but we will explore them together.
